Caroline Gabe, PhD
Assistant Professor of Anthropology
I am currently an Assistant Professor at Adams State University. I am also the Program Coordinator for the online Cultural Resource Management Masters program (check us out here). In these capacities, I teach a range of anthropology, geography, and social science courses in both the traditional and online setting, as well as graduate level CRM classes.
Research Interests
Transitioning out of dissertation research into tangential and other projects. My current areas of interest include:

-
Protohistoric and historic occupation of the San Luis Valley, Colorado
-
Community based archaeology in the San Luis Valley
-
The spread of domestic horses in North America
-
Landscape use over time in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado
-
Spanish colonial identity in seventeenth century New Mexico
Adams State
I joined Adams State University in the fall of 2019. Having done archaeological work in the San Juan Mountains and Uncompahgre Plateau intermittently over the past 15 years, I was drawn back to the Rockies. Furthermore, the San Luis Valley has a clear link with Northern New Mexico, another area I have grown to love during my time in Albuquerque.

I have three major goals/aspirations in my role at Adams State University:

-
Revitalize the anthropology degree program and develop anthropology courses that integrate into other majors and foci around campus.
-
Grow the CRM Master's degree into a nationally recognized program.
-
Support and encourage my students from diverse backgrounds to pursue anthropology.
